FAQ
You can get scuba certified with Red Sea Marine in as little as 2 to 4 days, depending on how you plan your course:
Standard pace (3–4 days):
Complete the full PADI Open Water Diver course, including theory, confined water, and open water dives.
Fast-track option (2 days):
If you finish the theory online before arriving, you can complete the in-water training quickly.
Flexible route:
Do the theory (and even pool sessions) at home, then finish your open water dives in Sharm El Sheikh.
Short experience (no certification):
Try Discover Scuba Diving — just a few hours.
👉 Bottom line:
Fastest certification: 2 days
Most common: 3–4 days
🔴 1. General Rule: No True “Independent” Diving
In Sharm, you cannot just go dive on your own freely, even if you’re certified.
Most dive sites are inside protected areas like Ras Mohammed National Park
These areas require permits + authorized access
Diving is usually only allowed through a registered dive center
🟡 2. Shore Diving (Limited Cases)
There are a few exceptions, but still controlled:
Some hotel house reefs allow diving without a guide ONLY IF:
You are certified (usually Advanced Open Water or higher)
You show logbook + proof of experience
You do a check dive
You follow specific entry/exit points and depth limits
👉 Even then, you are still technically under the hotel/dive center’s supervision.
🔵 3. Boat Diving = Always Guided
For boat dives in Sharm:
A guide is mandatory
The boat itself must have government clearance
No private boat diving unless it’s a fully licensed operation.
⚖️ 4. Why These Rules Exist
Strong currents and drift dives in the Red Sea
Heavy boat traffic (safety risk)
Coral reef protection laws
National park regulations
❗ 5. Important Authority
All diving activities are regulated by:
Egyptian Chamber of Diving and Water Sports (CDWS)
They set:
Safety rules
Guide requirements
Environmental protection laws
✅ 6. What You CAN Do Instead
If you want more freedom:
Ask for a private guide (closest to independent diving)
Choose unguided house reef diving
Upgrade certification (Deep / Drift / Rescue) → gives more flexibility
Dive in less restricted areas outside national parks
💡 Realistic Expectation
Even experienced divers (100+ dives) in Sharm usually:
Dive with a guide
Or dive independently only on house reefs under rules
👉 Completely solo, unsupervised diving is not allowed legally.
