The SSI Navigation specialty helps you develop the skills to confidently find your way, follow a planned route, and better understand your position throughout a dive. During the course, you'll learn how to use a compass effectively, take and follow headings, estimate distances, recognize natural underwater reference points, and combine compass navigation with the features of the reef around you. Your instructor will show you how to plan a navigation route before entering the water and then put those techniques into practice during your dives. You'll learn how to stay aware of your surroundings, make sensible navigation decisions, and return to your intended destination without relying entirely on a guide. Sharm El Sheikh is a great place to develop these skills. Its varied reefs, sandy areas, coral formations, walls, and pinnacles provide plenty of natural features that can help you understand how underwater navigation works in real diving conditions. At Red Sea Marine Diving Center, we focus on making navigation practical rather than complicated. Your instructor will work with you in the water, helping you understand how to combine compass work, natural references, depth, time, and observation to build a reliable picture of where you are.
