Upgrade Scuba Diver → Open Water Diver You’ve already done it: you breathed underwater, floated over a Red Sea reef and understood why people get hooked. Now you’re an SSI Scuba Diver, and you know there’s more out there. Deeper reefs, longer dives, the freedom to plan your own dive with a buddy instead of following a guide. This upgrade is how you get there. What the upgrade gives you SSI Scuba Diver is a first step. It lets you dive to 12 metres (40 ft) in the company of an SSI professional. The upgrade to SSI Open Water Diver completes your basic training, so you can dive to 18 metres (60 ft) independently with a certified buddy. The certification is recognised worldwide, so it travels with you far beyond Sharm El Sheikh. How it works You don’t start from zero. Your instructor looks at what you’ve already completed, then takes you through only the parts that remain: the rest of your academic knowledge, the remaining skills, and the open water dives that complete your certification. ✔ (confirm which parts apply and in which order) Your training takes place in the Red Sea with a professional SSI instructor and a small group, from our base at Ghazala Beach Hotel in Naama Bay. Scuba Diver is a limited certification: dives to 12 m with an SSI professional. Open Water Diver is the full entry-level certification: dives to 18 m with a buddy, no professional required. Do I have to repeat what I’ve already done? No. We credit your completed training and only teach what’s missing. How long does the upgrade take? It depends on what you’ve already completed.
