After 20 years as a professional diving instructor and more than 7,000 logged dives, I have learned that the answer is not simply about finding the cheapest dive package or the hotel with the best-looking swimming pool.
The best diving holiday is about matching the diver, the dive sites, the conditions, and the organization correctly.

There is no single dive center that is perfect for every diver. A beginner has different needs from an experienced diver, and a diver looking for relaxed shore diving may want something completely different from someone interested in challenging boat dives.

The Red Sea can offer remarkably clear water, giving divers the opportunity to appreciate the reef from a distance and see the underwater landscape clearly.
But visibility is only part of the experience.
The marine life is exceptional
The reefs around Sharm El Sheikh are full of life.
Depending on the site and conditions, divers can encounter schools of colorful reef fish, moray eels, turtles, rays, and larger pelagic species.
The sheer variety of life is one of the reasons I continue to enjoy diving in the Red Sea after thousands of dives.
And then there is the reef itself.
The underwater topography is spectacular
Sharm's dive sites are not all the same.
Some feature dramatic walls and drop-offs. Others have coral formations, pinnacles, sandy areas, swim-throughs, and large reef plateaus.

Some of my favorite Sharm El Sheikh dive sites
One of the classic experiences in the Ras Mohammed area. The combination of dramatic reef formations, marine life, and the famous Yolanda wreck site makes this a dive that many experienced divers remember for years.
Located in the Strait of Tiran, Jackson is famous for its beautiful reef environment and the possibility of encounters with larger marine life when conditions are right.
A spectacular reef with impressive underwater scenery. It is particularly attractive to experienced divers who appreciate reef topography and stronger conditions when present.
Another favorite, particularly for divers who enjoy exploring varied underwater terrain and looking for marine life.
A fantastic option close to Sharm, and an excellent example of why you do not always need a full-day boat trip to experience beautiful Red Sea diving.
When Is the Best Time to Dive in Sharm El Sheikh?
Sharm El Sheikh can be dived throughout much of the year, but conditions vary with the season.
The factors I pay the most attention to are:
Weather
Wind
Water conditions
Visibility
Current
The experience level of the divers
Rather than promising that one particular month is always "perfect," I prefer to look at the actual conditions and choose the appropriate dive site.
That is another reason why having an experienced local dive center matters.
The best dive site is not necessarily the most famous one—it is the site that offers the right conditions for you on that particular day.
Should Beginners Start With Boat Diving?
This is one of my strongest recommendations for people visiting Sharm El Sheikh for the first time.
Don't feel that you have to start your holiday with a boat trip.
If you are a newly certified diver, haven't dived for a long time, or simply feel nervous about diving in a new destination, I recommend beginning with a shore dive.
It gives you an opportunity to:
Check your equipment
Refresh your diving skills
Get comfortable with the water
See how you feel underwater
Allow your instructor to understand your diving level
Adapt the rest of your holiday accordingly
After that, you can move on to boat diving and more demanding sites when appropriate.

Which Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh Is Best for Diving?
If diving is the main purpose of your trip, I would pay much more attention to the hotel's location than simply choosing the hotel with the highest general tourist rating.
For divers, one of my preferred areas is Naama Bay, particularly around Ghazala Beach.
Why?
Because being close to your dive center makes the entire holiday easier.
You don't want to spend a large part of every morning sitting in transportation when you could be preparing for your dive.
Why Ghazala Beach is convenient for divers
This area offers easy access to diving while also putting you close to many of the restaurants, cafés, shops and other attractions that make Naama Bay popular.
There is another important advantage for divers:
The house reef
The house reef around Ghazala Beach provides an excellent opportunity for shore diving.
This is particularly useful for:
Beginners
Refresher dives
Check dives
Divers who prefer relaxed shore diving
Photographers
Divers who don't want every dive to involve a boat trip

Don't Choose a Dive Center Based Only on Price
This is perhaps the most important advice I can give.
When comparing dive centers in Sharm El Sheikh, it is natural to look at the price.
But the cheapest diving holiday is not necessarily the best-value diving holiday.
A very cheap package may not provide the same level of personal attention, group size, organization, equipment, or flexibility.
When you compare prices, ask what is actually included.
Look at:
Who will be guiding you?
How large are the groups?
Will the itinerary be adapted to your experience?
Is equipment included?
How is transportation organized?
Can the dive center change the plan according to conditions?
What happens if you need extra help?
These questions are often more important than saving a small amount of money.
